HERITAGE DAYS

at Sacajawea State Park

September 26,27,28, 2008 Pasco, Washington

The Heritage Days event was originally started By the local Lewis & Clark Bicenntennial Council to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Voyage of Discovery.  The date of the festival was set to be as close as possible to the anniversary date of their arrival at the mouth of the Snake River where it flows into the Columbia River. Mid-Columbia Traditonal Arts and Music Association has presented the event since 2006, and we have moved the dates of the event to the last weekend in September, for more agreeable weather

Its purpose is to learn about and re-enact the life and skills of the the early American explorers, the Native American cultures they found along the way, and the lives of the early settlers.

Heritage days runs for three days, Friday through Sunday.  Friday is dedicated to receiving school children and letting them see and touch what used to be.  Saturday and Sunday are when most people show up to experience the past.

There are Lewis & Clark re-enactors, members of the Umatilla and Yakama Nations, and the Wanapums. Mountain man encampments, and a variety of other people who enjoy sharing their skills and knowledge about what life was like nearly two centuries ago.

For 2008, we are excited to have Old-Time musicians and entertainers, The Canote Brothers. They will present their excellent program on Saturday at 2:00 P.M.

Yakama storyteller Jacob Wolftail will present "Coyote Tales" throughout Friday and Saturday.

Saturday Night is Special

On Saturday night there is a bonfire and many people who are encamped at the park as well as many more show up to play music, sing, and just have a good time.

THIS FREE TO THE PUBLIC EVENT IS IN NEED OF YOUR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.
